TRNC Annual Inflation Rate Announces as 64.75%

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Statistical Institute has released the Cost of Living (COL) figures for August, revealing a monthly increase of 3.28%. The cumulative COL for the first eight months of the year has reached 42.17%, while the annual rate has surged to 64.75%.

The cost of living for the four months of May, June, July, and August combined stands at 19.19%.

According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), there was a 3.28% change compared to the previous month, a 42.17% change since December of the previous year, and a 64.75% change compared to the same month last year.

Among the main expenditure groups, the highest increase compared to the previous month was observed in the Restaurants and Hotels category, which saw a rise of 5.25%. This was followed by increases in the Entertainment and Culture group (5.16%), Education (4.39%), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (4.02%), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels (2.77%), Transportation (2.39%), Health (2.10%), Furniture, Household Appliances, and Household Maintenance Services (1.88%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (1.71%), Communication (1.31%), and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (0.65%). Conversely, the Clothing and Footwear group recorded a decrease of 2.77%.

Out of the 440 items covered in the index, the average prices of 359 items increased, while 81 items saw a decrease. The top three items with the highest price increases were Eggplant (137.31%), Zucchini (131.22%), and Tomatoes (82.20%). On the other hand, the items with the most significant price drops were Fresh Beans (31.45%), Watermelon (27.81%), and Lettuce (26.75%).
