Christodoulides: "Our Responsibility for Cyprus' Reunification is Great"

His remarks came during a speech at a memorial event for the renowned Greek musician Mikis Theodorakis held in Crete last Monday, where he also touched on the Cyprus issue.

According to Haravgi, Christodoulides claimed that his generation bears the responsibility of overcoming the current division imposed by Turkey's actions in Cyprus. He emphasized that, in full cooperation with their steadfast ally, Greece, they are working to create conditions conducive to restarting negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

Expressing gratitude for the solidarity and support from Greece and the Greek people over the past 50 years in their struggle for survival, development, and justice, Christodoulides highlighted the importance of a strong Greece as a crucial ally and a pillar of stability and security in the region.

Christodoulides also reiterated his vision of a Cyprus free from "Turkey’s influence, guarantors, and protectors." Since his election, he claimed to have done everything within his power to restart negotiations and resolve the Cyprus issue in line with UN resolutions and EU principles.

Reaffirming that the current status quo is not a choice nor a viable future for Cyprus, Christodoulides stressed the necessity of a strong and practical internal front to support the resolution of the Cyprus issue. He also paid tribute to Theodorakis, stating that the artist had consistently fought for Hellenism's future and stood by the Greek Cypriots in their struggles.
