The tremor, which occurred shortly after midnight, was felt for several seconds and resulted in panic among residents. Initial reports indicate a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale with an epicentre in the sea off Paphos.

The quake caused minor damage to some buildings, particularly older structures, and led to one incident where a teenage girl became trapped in her bedroom. The Fire Service was called to the scene and successfully rescued the girl.

Emergency services, including the Civil Defense, Police, Fire Service, and teams from the District Administration, were deployed to assess the situation and provide assistance. No serious injuries have been reported, but authorities are continuing to assess the damage.
