Kyrenia's Ancient Harbor Wooden Pier to Be Renewed
Kyrenia's Ancient Harbor will see the renewal of its wooden pier, according to Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoğlu. During his recent visit to the site, Ataoğlu announced that the wooden pier, which serves as a docking point for yachts, is set for significant renovation.
Accompanied by Ministry Undersecretary Serhan Aktunç, Ataoğlu conducted an on-site inspection of the existing pier and discussed the upcoming renovation project. He explained that the wooden pier, which has become worn over time, will be replaced under the Pier Renewal Project.
Ataoğlu detailed that the new pier will feature a more robust, modern design, incorporating steel frameworks underneath and wooden materials on top. This upgrade is intended to enhance the durability and aesthetic appeal of the pier. The redesigned pier will be wider than the current structure, providing additional space for yacht tours and improving the overall usability of the harbor area.
Next week, a tender for the construction of the new wooden pier will be announced, with a contract to be signed with the selected company in October. The renovation work is expected to begin in November and will continue through the winter months, aiming to have the pier ready for the new tourism season.
Ataoğlu emphasized that the renovation efforts are part of a broader initiative to beautify Kyrenia's Ancient Harbor. He noted that the improvements would benefit local businesses and sectors dependent on tourism, underscoring the project's significance for the area's economic and aesthetic development.
