KTAMS Announces Hunger Threshold: 27,402 TL

The Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants' Union (KTAMS) has announced that the hunger threshold for a family of four is 27,402 TL as of August 31, 2024.

KTAMS calculated this figure using data from the Department of Inpatient Treatment Institutions under the Ministry of Health, which outlines a nutrition template required for a family of four to maintain a healthy diet. The prices for the items in this template were provided by the Statistics Department, and the average was used to determine the hunger threshold.

The report reveals that, as of the end of August 2024, a family of four needs to spend 27,402 TL per month to meet their basic nutritional needs.

KTAMS Statement:

According to KTAMS:

  • "Based on our research, an adult woman needs to spend 235.85 TL daily or 7,075.50 TL monthly for necessary food expenses. An adult man requires 245.96 TL daily or 7,378.80 TL monthly. A child aged 15-19 needs 258.91 TL daily or 7,767.30 TL monthly, while a child aged 4-6 needs 172.69 TL daily or 5,180.70 TL monthly.
  • The total monthly food expense for a family of four to eat healthily, balanced, and adequately is 27,402 TL, which constitutes the hunger threshold."

KTAMS also highlighted that, according to official figures from the Statistics Department, inflation in the country increased by 3.28% in August 2024, and by 19.19% over the past four months.
