In a press briefing, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, expressed concerns about the historical accuracy of the series, set to air on September 20.

Aktürk stated: “By distorting historical facts, this series, set to be released on a digital platform, grossly disrespects the sacred memories of our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters who were mercilessly killed by Greek Cypriot militias. Such provocative and propagandistic attempts, including the ‘Famagusta’ series, serve no purpose and will benefit neither side, including the Greek Cypriots."

He further added that efforts like these, which aim to tarnish the image of the Cyprus Peace Operation, contribute to continued discord rather than peace, harming the secure environment that has been maintained on the island.

“We Will Continue to Stand by Our Cypriot Brothers”

Aktürk continued: "Additionally, our ministry has prepared the ‘50th Anniversary Documentary,’ which tells the real story behind the events leading up to the Cyprus Peace Operation, rather than fabricated narratives. This documentary, with English subtitles, will soon be available on various platforms. As we have done so far, we will continue to stand by our Cypriot brothers in the face of provocations regarding our national cause, Cyprus.”

He also announced the upcoming airing of another documentary, “The Next Day,” which covers the atrocities committed by the Greek army during the Turkish War of Independence. The documentary, based on historical records, will be broadcast on TRT Documentary on September 9.
