Cevdet Yılmaz: "Inhumane Isolation of Turkish Cypriots Must End"
Turkey’s Vice President, Cevdet Yılmaz, emphasized that the inhumane isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots must come to an end, calling for the initiation of direct flights and trade with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In a press statement at Ercan Airport alongside TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Yılmaz reiterated Turkey’s unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot people.
Yılmaz stressed that no new negotiation process can commence without the formal recognition of the Turkish Cypriots’ inherent rights to sovereign equality and equal international status. He underscored that Turkey stands firmly with the Turkish Cypriots in all matters, as repeatedly highlighted by President Ersin Tatar.
He further stated, “The inhumane isolation of our Turkish Cypriot brothers must end, and direct flights and trade with the TRNC must begin. It is also crucial to lift obstacles preventing President Tatar from engaging in direct contact with international counterparts.”
Yılmaz concluded by affirming Turkey’s commitment to advocating for the just cause of the Turkish Cypriots in the international community and continuing its support for the TRNC.
