Özuslu Criticizes '50th Anniversary' Documentary: "Can There Be a Cyprus Documentary Without Ecevit?"
A- A A+

Özuslu took to social media to highlight the issue, referencing the ongoing controversy surrounding the Turkish TV series "Famagusta" and its depiction on Netflix.

Özuslu criticized the documentary for allegedly neglecting the role of former Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit and his Deputy Necmettin Erbakan in the 1974 Cyprus events. He noted that Sözcü Newspaper had headlined, "Can There Be a Cyprus Documentary Without Ecevit?" lamenting that such omissions are not new and have been a recurring issue, as seen in TRT's "Once Upon a Time in Cyprus" series.

He expressed skepticism about achieving "true peace" without supporting "alternative history" projects, which he believes are often ignored by states in favor of one-sided rhetoric. Özuslu questioned whether politicians like Ersin Tatar and others who criticize Netflix have updated their views on historical figures like Ecevit and Erbakan, whom they previously celebrated.
