Hatay: "Whether You Want Two States or a Federation, the Property Issue Must Be Resolved"

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s program Gündem, hosted by Ulaş Barış, Hatay pointed out that legal disputes over property, particularly involving Jewish businessmen, have impacted the construction sector, slowing its progress.

Hatay highlighted that markets in Central Asia could become a new focus for the construction industry amid these challenges.

Hatay reiterated that whether the goal is a two-state solution or a federation, the property issue is unavoidable and must be addressed. He stressed the importance of tackling this matter sooner rather than later.

Hatay noted that one factor contributing to the slow progress of the Property Compensation Commission is the bureaucratic obstacles in Southern Cyprus. He emphasized the need to address these challenges openly, warning that if left unaddressed, problems will only grow.

He explained that the property issue is not static but evolves over time, and legal cases can play a role in shaping the property regime. "Legal cases are not always a bad thing; they can also be tools to shape the property regime," Hatay remarked.
