Ertuğruloğlu: 'Famagusta' Series Aims to Mislead Greek Youth

Speaking about the show's release on September 20, Ertuğruloğlu highlighted that it was produced through a collaboration between Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration. He emphasized that the series portrays the 1974 Turkish military intervention as the primary cause of the Cyprus problem, a depiction he claims is far from the truth.

Western Support and Criticism

Ertuğruloğlu also pointed out that Western countries strongly support the Greek Cypriot perspective, suggesting that this international backing has exacerbated the situation. He argued that the portrayal of events in the series overlooks the humanitarian approach of the Turkish military and creates a misleading narrative, particularly for younger generations.

He further recalled the Turkish drama Once Upon a Time in Cyprus, which he said accurately depicted historical events. The minister stressed the need to more actively highlight the massacres and injustices faced by the Turkish Cypriot community in the past, echoing President Ersin Tatar's calls for a stronger global presentation of the Turkish Cypriot identity and perspective.
