82 Traffic Accidents Occurred Last Week: Two Dead, 28 Injured

A total of 82 traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC last week, resulting in two fatalities and 28 injuries.

According to a police statement, from September 9 to 15, 82 accidents were reported across the country, with two fatal, 20 causing injuries, and 60 resulting in property damage.

The accidents led to the deaths of two individuals, while 28 others were injured. The main causes of the accidents were speeding (24), careless driving (19), failure to stop at intersections (16), tailgating (14), and other factors (9).

The total estimated damage from the accidents amounted to 4,808,122 TL.

The distribution of accidents by district was as follows: Nicosia (30), Famagusta (17), Kyrenia (22), Omorfo (6), and İskele (7).

13,791 Drivers Checked During Traffic Inspections

During the same period, traffic inspections were conducted nationwide. A total of 13,791 drivers were checked, and 2,462 were reported for various violations, leading to legal action.

The violations included:

  • Speeding: 707 (including 152 detected by mobile radar)
  • Dangerous driving: 19
  • Careless driving: 51
  • Driving without a valid license: 12
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol: 68
  • Using a mobile phone while driving: 219
  • Not wearing a seatbelt: 77
  • Violating traffic signs and signals: 164
  • Other traffic violations: 638

In total, 196 vehicles were impounded, and five drivers were arrested.
