"UBP Congress Closely Watched Globally" says Hasipoğlu

Ahead of the upcoming Ulusal Birlik Partisi (UBP) Congress on Saturday, UBP General Secretary Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu made significant statements to Kıbrıs Postası, emphasizing the strong interest from young members. Noting that the list provided by the Supreme Election Council (YSK) shows 21,000 members, Hasipoğlu highlighted that 70% of the members are young people, underlining their substantial engagement in politics.

"Youth Interest in Politics is Encouraging"

Hasipoğlu expressed satisfaction with the growing interest from young people in politics, noting that UBP’s efforts to enhance the international visibility of the TRNC have resonated strongly. He emphasized that one of UBP’s key missions is to encourage youth participation in politics, and he expects the upcoming congress to be the most highly attended in the political history of the TRNC. “We aim to turn this into a celebration of democracy,” Hasipoğlu added.

With just days left before the congress, Hasipoğlu stressed its importance for the future of the country. "This congress is not only significant for our country but is also being closely watched globally. We will send a message of democracy and the will of our members to the world through this congress," he said.

"Final Preparations for the Congress"

Hasipoğlu announced that preparations for the UBP Ordinary Congress, set for September 21st, are in their final stages. The congress will be held at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Sports Hall, starting at 9:00 AM, with the arrival of General President candidates expected around 9:15 AM. Voting will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until 9:00 PM.

Voting Process and Results

Hasipoğlu shared that, in addition to the three General President candidates, 122 candidates will also compete for seats in the Party Assembly. He stressed the importance of adhering to the exact number of votes required for each district when voting, warning that ballots with over or under the required number of votes will be invalidated. The vote count for the General President will begin on the same night, while the Party Assembly vote count will take place on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

"UBP is the Largest Political Force in the TRNC"

Reflecting on the significance of the congress, Hasipoğlu said, "The decisions made at this congress will send important messages regarding the Cyprus issue to the world. The 23rd Ordinary Congress is set to be the largest in terms of membership, and we will have guests from Turkey and Azerbaijan. We hope the outcome will be beneficial for both our country and our party. The UBP, as the largest political force in the TRNC, will continue to work with determination to create a better future for the Turkish Cypriot people."
