Soyer Criticizes UBP Congress as a "Masterpiece of Engineering"

Speaking on a TV program, Soyer likened the UBP congress to the political environment during the 12 September period in Turkey, stating, "Back then, they closed all political parties and formed controlled parties on the left and right in the name of democracy... Özal broke that game." He pointed to the withdrawal of leading candidates in the UBP race as a significant factor in the final result.

He further criticized the low turnout, noting, "They proudly stated that 50% of the members didn’t participate. It is significant that 10,000 people did take part, but it is also telling that despite all state resources, another 10,000 did not."

Soyer urged both winners and losers within UBP to reflect on these developments, warning against efforts to eliminate opposing factions within the party. "If you try to wipe out what you call the opposition, know that people are not your pawns," he remarked, advising those intoxicated by victory to treat others with respect.
