After the meeting, Christodoulides highlighted the Secretary-General’s appreciation for Cyprus' humanitarian assistance to Gaza. He further emphasized that they discussed the prospects for resuming negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

“I thanked the Secretary-General for his political commitment not only to the resumption of negotiations but also to a solution to the Cyprus problem within the agreed framework,” Christodoulides stated.

"Ready to Meet Anytime, Anywhere"

Christodoulides reaffirmed his readiness to engage in discussions with both the Turkish Cypriot leader and the Turkish delegation at any time and any place. He pointed out that during his 18 months in office, his administration has demonstrated political will and readiness for the resumption of negotiations.

He expressed hope that Guterres' ongoing efforts would yield positive results, adding, "I would like to reiterate that we are ready at any moment."

When asked about the possibility of progress in October, Christodoulides simply reiterated his message to the Secretary-General: “anytime, anywhere.” He urged patience, stating, "Let’s allow the Secretary-General to do his work. As I understand, he will be meeting with President Erdoğan during his upcoming discussions. Let’s hope for a positive outcome."

Upcoming Meeting with US National Security Advisor

Christodoulides also mentioned an upcoming meeting with Jon Finer, the US Deputy National Security Advisor. Although the Cyprus issue will be discussed, the primary focus will be on bilateral relations between Cyprus and the US, as well as America’s expressed interest in joining the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project.

Christodoulides emphasized that strengthening Cyprus-US relations is a strategic choice, and he expects positive announcements about these ties by early 2025. This matter will also be a key topic in his upcoming tripartite discussions with the Prime Minister of Greece and the President of France.

The UN later issued a statement confirming that the meeting between Christodoulides and Guterres addressed the future of the Cyprus issue and the situation in the Middle East.
