During his visit to New York for the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Erdoğan continued his diplomatic engagements, including a meeting with Mitsotakis at the UN headquarters following his address to the assembly.

According to a statement from the Presidential Communications Directorate, the discussion between the two leaders covered bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues. Erdoğan expressed optimism that Turkey and Greece can move forward with confidence on the basis of good neighborly relations. He emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue and adhering to the principles outlined in the Athens Declaration, which would benefit both nations.

In addition, Erdoğan highlighted the risks posed by Israel’s attacks, particularly in Gaza, and stressed the importance of exerting pressure on Israel to allow unhindered humanitarian aid to reach the region.
