Tatar: The Republic of Cyprus Has Transformed into a Greek Cypriot Republic, Leading to a Two-State Reality

Tatar emphasized that “the Republic of Cyprus has become a Greek Cypriot Republic,” asserting that there are now two separate peoples and states in Cyprus. He reiterated, “This is the fundamental line underlying our politics. We will resist until the end.”

Highlighting that Erdoğan's speech provided them with strength, Tatar expressed frustration about the inability to make their voices heard: “The Greek leader speaks, but we cannot. There cannot be a greater inequality than this. The true owners of the island are the Turkish Cypriots.”

“CYPRUS IS ACTUALLY AN EXTENSION OF ANATOLIA”

President Tatar explained that they are facing a mindset that sees itself as the sole sovereign entity on the island. He remarked, “There are those who think the island's wealth belongs solely to them. We are the true owners of the island. We must address these issues together. They are a people, and we are a people. Cyprus is actually an extension of Anatolia.”

He also underscored the importance of aligning national policy with Turkey.

“THEY WANT TO SEPARATE US FROM TURKEY UNDER A FEDERAL FRAMEWORK”

In an interview with the National Channel in Turkey, Tatar reminded that Turkish Cypriots have been isolated for years, stating, “We are still being played with. They want to separate us from Turkey with an adventure that would lead to zero soldiers and zero guarantees under a federal framework.” He stressed that they are resisting these attempts and highlighted the significance of Erdoğan clearly expressing the need for two states.

Reiterating that there are two distinct peoples and states in Cyprus, Tatar said, “The negotiation process can only begin with the recognition of our sovereign equality. If the island is completely handed over to the EU, Turkey will lose as well, and it cannot allow that to happen.”

TATAR SETS THREE CONDITIONS FOR NEGOTIATIONS

During his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on September 28, President Tatar plans to present a three-dimensional proposal: direct flights, direct contact, and direct trade. He stated, “Negotiations can only begin with the realization of these proposals. The end of the isolation can only be achieved through this formula.”
