New Developments in the Narin Güran Murder Case: Four More Arrested
In Diyarbakır, the investigation into the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was discovered 19 days after her disappearance, has led to the arrest of four additional individuals.
These arrests were made based on cell phone records that matched those of previously detained suspects. Narin was reported missing on August 21, and her body was found on September 8 in a riverbed, concealed in a sack and covered with stones.
The investigation is being conducted under the coordination of three prosecutors and a chief public prosecutor assigned by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutors have received analysis reports containing telephone call data and signal base information requested from the Information Technologies Authority.
According to a report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, a meticulous review of past records revealed overlaps in the HTS (High Technical Surveillance) data of four additional individuals who are relatives of the detained family members.
These newly detained individuals, arrested last Monday, are believed to have had significant communication with some of the 12 people arrested in connection with the case on the day of the incident and afterward. They were taken into custody by gendarmerie forces after being identified as having received signals from the same base station in Tavşantepe Village.
The suspects were subsequently brought to court, and after giving their statements as suspects, it was determined that they would be released.
The timing of these recent arrests is noteworthy, as they coincide with the additional statements given by the confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar, who admitted to burying the young girl in the riverbed, as well as the testimonies of two confidential witnesses and the receipt of HTS data by the prosecutors from the Information Technologies Authority.
INTENSE COMMUNICATION ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT
HTS records indicate significant phone traffic among members of the Güran family on critical dates: August 21, the day Narin was killed; September 2, the day her uncle Salim was arrested; and September 8, the day her body was discovered. Notably, there were numerous phone calls exchanged among her mother, Yüksel; uncle Salim; father, Arif; brother, Enes; uncle Fuat; and brother-in-law, Mehmet Şevket Kaya during these times.
As of today, the investigation into Narin’s murder has reached its 35th day, with 27 suspects identified. Apart from the confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar, who hid the girl’s body in the river, 12 family members are currently in custody, and three others are under judicial control with travel restrictions.
WAITING FOR LABORATORY REPORTS
The JASAT (Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation) teams have sent evidence collected from the suspects’ homes, barns, and vehicles to the Van Gendarmerie Regional Criminal Laboratory for analysis. Results regarding fingerprints, clothing DNA findings, and other genetic materials, such as saliva samples from cigarette butts, blood, and hair, are expected to be submitted to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office this week.
Additionally, efforts are underway to resolve some camera footage that was collected from the village but could not be deciphered, and this report is also expected to be delivered to the prosecutors in the coming days.
