Republic of Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, speaking at the 79th UN General Assembly, expressed his readiness to negotiate for a sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue within a single framework. He argued that the Turkish military intervention in 1974 cannot be characterized as a "Peace Operation."

Christodoulides emphasized that international law should not be interpreted selectively, asserting that its interpretation cannot change depending on who is violating it.

Greek Cypriot media described Christodoulides' speech as a response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks on the resolution of the Cyprus problem during his address at the UN General Assembly the previous day.

Christodoulides outlined the framework within which he is willing to negotiate, stating: "A bi-zonal, bi-communal state with political equality as defined by UN resolutions, in alignment with EU principles and values."

He also highlighted that the Greek Cypriot administration stood "on the right side of history" when Russia's invasion of Ukraine began.
