Alpargün was arrested in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and subsequently extradited to Turkey.

The Alpargün Apartment, located in Çukurova, Adana, was destroyed in the earthquakes, leading to the issuance of a warrant for Alpargün's arrest. He fled to the TRNC on the day of the disaster.

Following negotiations between authorities, Alpargün surrendered to the police in Nicosia and was brought back to Adana. Investigations revealed that he attempted to transfer $900,000, €890,000, and 500,000 Turkish lira from Turkey to the TRNC, as well as tried to purchase an apartment in Nicosia.
