Speaking after the meeting, Labor and Social Security Minister Sadık Gardiyanoğlu confirmed that the previously implemented 19.19% increase would remain in place. As a result, the new minimum wage, effective from September 1, will continue to be set at the aforementioned rates.

Serdaroğlu: "Let’s Address the Root Issues Instead of Just Debating Wages"

Hür-İş President Ahmet Serdaroğlu, speaking after the meeting, urged employers to focus on underlying issues rather than wage debates. He acknowledged that the concerns raised by employers were valid, given the challenges faced by businesses. Serdaroğlu emphasized the importance of tackling inflation collaboratively.

He further pointed out that employers face difficulties not only when the minimum wage is increased but also as general expenses rise, stressing the need to minimize inflation.

Minimum Wage Finalized at 35,180 TL by Majority Vote

The Minimum Wage Commission reviewed the objection from the Cyprus Turkish Employers' Union but, as no alternative figure was proposed, voted by majority to keep the previously determined figure. The minimum wage, set at a gross of 40,436 TL and a net of 35,180 TL during the September 18 meeting, was published in the Official Gazette today and will take effect from September 1.

Minister Gardiyanoğlu highlighted that the key issue discussed was not the wage figure but the high cost of living in the country. He stressed the importance of balancing wages with swift measures to curb inflation. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel is expected to announce further measures to address these economic challenges.
