A- A A+

Solyalı emphasized the importance of resolving property matters at the negotiating table, noting that since Tatar’s election, Turkish Cypriots have increasingly been viewed as the side opposed to a solution.

"Tatar Is to Blame for Arrests Over Property Disputes"

Speaking on a program on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Solyalı criticized Tatar for creating a situation that has caused significant tension among Turkish Cypriots, stressing that the property issue is critical and should be addressed through diplomatic channels. He also dismissed Tatar’s calls for sovereign equality and international status as irrelevant on the global stage, claiming that these stances contribute to further deadlock.

"The Status Quo Is No Longer Sustainable for Turkish Cypriots"

During his interview, Solyalı evaluated the recent UN summit and CTP's meetings in New York. He expressed concern that the current status quo is unsustainable for Turkish Cypriots, both economically and democratically. He also highlighted the lack of significant negotiations since the Crans Montana talks.

"A Young Generation Unable to Fulfill Their Dreams in Cyprus"

Solyalı lamented the creation of a generation that cannot realize their dreams in Cyprus due to the ongoing political and economic situation. He also criticized the lack of leadership in resolving the Cyprus issue, stressing that the CTP is the only party capable of filling this leadership void and spearheading diplomatic efforts.

"Turkey-Cyprus Relations Need a New Model"

Solyalı underscored the importance of maintaining relations with Turkey but argued for a model that fosters better dialogue and cooperation. He suggested that despite Turkey’s current stance, which dismisses a federal solution, effective diplomacy could lead to a better understanding.

"The Main Problem Is the Use of the Turkish Lira"

Commenting on the minimum wage, Solyalı argued that the biggest issue facing the economy is the use of the Turkish Lira. He proposed two solutions: first, revisiting the framework agreement governing the use of the Turkish Lira, and second, switching to an accounting system indexed to the Euro to stabilize the economy.

He also highlighted the significant inflation affecting basic goods, noting that inflation for essential items is 20-25% higher than the general inflation rate.
