The operation took place in Nicosia and Famagusta, where the suspects were apprehended. Arif Karadeniz, who was previously detained, was released after it was determined he had no connection to the crime.

During the court hearing, police officer Fezile Kesat provided details of the case. The police received information regarding Mehmet Karadeniz's possession of drugs on September 26, 2024, and a narcotics team visited his home in Meriç village but did not find him there. In an initial search of the property, officers discovered a one-meter-tall cannabis plant in the garden.

The police then learned that both suspects were in the Dörtyol area, where they were stopped. During a search of their vehicle, officers found 150 grams of cannabis. Both suspects were arrested, and the police confirmed that they also had residences in Famagusta. A search of Horuz's home yielded an additional 2 grams of cannabis.

In his statement, Horuz indicated that he had purchased 5 grams of cannabis from Karadeniz earlier in September. The police also found 15 grams of cannabis in Karadeniz's Famagusta home, where he claimed ownership of the drugs.

A second search of Karadeniz’s Meriç village home uncovered 2 kilos and 715 grams of cannabis hidden in various parts of the garden. Karadeniz claimed that he had cultivated the drugs since March 2024. The police announced that the investigation is ongoing, with plans to analyze the seized drugs and review surveillance footage.

Horuz's lawyer argued that he was merely a user and had no involvement in cultivation. The lawyer also mentioned that Karadeniz had taken full responsibility for the drugs.

Prosecutor Hasan Boşnak stated that the investigation is extensive and ongoing in both regions, requesting an additional eight days for further inquiry.

After evaluating the testimonies, Judge Nuray Necdet ordered both suspects to remain in custody for eight days.
