Israel Bans Guterres from Entering the Country
Israel has declared UN Secretary-General António Guterres a “persona non grata” and banned him from entering the country. The move comes after Guterres called for urgent de-escalation in the Middle East amid rising tensions.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Yisrael Katz, announced the decision on social media, stating, "Today I declared the UN Secretary-General a persona non grata in Israel and banned his entry."
Katz criticized Guterres, saying, “Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel, as nearly every other country has, does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil.”
He also highlighted Guterres’ failure to condemn Hamas for its October 7 massacre and other atrocities, accusing him of not leading efforts to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization. Katz further charged that Guterres supports terrorists and would be remembered as a "black mark" in UN history. Israel, he said, will continue to defend its citizens and protect its national honor, regardless of Guterres’ stance.
