Speaking during his visit to Washington, Ertuğruloğlu addressed various topics, including the recent meeting between President Ersin Tatar and Guterres in New York, where key issues related to Cyprus were discussed.

He reiterated that the existence and sovereignty of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are non-negotiable. Regarding the informal dinner set for October 15, which will be attended by both Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, Ertuğruloğlu made it clear that federation talks are no longer relevant.

"We have explicitly stated that this dinner will take place in an atmosphere where the federation topic will not be discussed," said Ertuğruloğlu, stressing that any future agreements must recognize the TRNC's sovereign status.

Ertuğruloğlu also commented on the increasing tension in the Middle East, expressing concern about its potential impact on the island. Meanwhile, Tatar had earlier remarked that any future official negotiations would require the confirmation of the TRNC's sovereign equality and international status.
