Migrants Crossing Illegally from the South Sent to Prison

Two migrants who illegally crossed from Southern Cyprus to Northern Cyprus were discovered in the village of Güvercinlik, Famagusta, and have been sent to prison.

The group, consisting of one woman and two men of Syrian origin, along with four children, was apprehended and brought before the military court.

Police officer Onur Gazinocu explained the details in court, stating that on September 28, 2024, around 23:00, Hafız El-Khaleef, Imad El Yasin, Afra Hasan Barakat, Abdullah Hossam Al-Muhanna, and Shaima Hossam Al-Muhanna illegally crossed from the south to the north with children aged 2, 5, 6, and 7 after secretly entering and violating a First-Degree Military Prohibited Zone.

The migrants were arrested in Güvercinlik on the same day, and the police requested their detention. After reviewing the evidence, the court ordered that Hafız El-Khaleef and Imad El Yasin be sent to prison for up to a month, while Afra Hasan Barakat and the four children are to remain in custody at Yıldız Student Dormitory.
