Arıklı: Ada-74 Welcomes New Partner and Commences Professional Services!
Transportation Minister Erhan Arıklı announced that a new operating partner has been brought on board for the Ada-74 vessel, which has undergone all necessary maintenance and is now set to provide professional services.
In an interview with Kıbrıs Postası, Minister Arıklı highlighted that the Ada-74 ship will operate professionally, marking a new phase in its service.
Ada-74 to Start Operations Between Anamur and TRNC in November
The Ada-74, acquired by the Cyprus Turkish Maritime Company last year, will begin operations in November. The vessel will be part of the fleet alongside the ANDO Anamur ferry, which has transported thousands of passengers on 126 voyages from June 12 to October 1, connecting Anamur to the TRNC.
The newly signed agreement with ANTSO Maritime will see Ada-74 operating between Anamur and Girne. ANTSO Maritime Board Chairman and Anamur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mehmet Tuna stated that the ferry services were halted on October 1 due to maritime regulations limiting passenger ferries to 12-meter wave heights. He noted:
“We will continue operations with a larger ship that complies with maritime regulations, which can handle wave heights greater than 12 meters. With the Ada-74, we will transport both cargo and passengers between Anamur and Girne, unaffected by the waves year-round. This means that our brothers and sisters in Cyprus will have access to products harvested in Anamur and its vicinity within hours.”
Tuna emphasized that Anamur's proximity to Girne makes it the most suitable location for the fastest, most comfortable, and safest journeys. He expressed gratitude to all involved in their efforts, which contribute to the prosperity of the region and the TRNC.
He further stated that the partnership agreement concerning Ada-74 has been signed, and necessary procedures for its operation are underway. “We are currently completing the required bureaucratic processes. Our vessel has been fully renovated to provide a level of comfort and cleanliness that our citizens deserve. With the RORO-ROPAX vessel, we will establish a dual-route bridge by incorporating a passenger ferry for an additional service from April 1 to October 1, 2025,” he added.
In addition to the ferry, the Ada-74 will ensure the fastest and highest quality transportation, depending on sea conditions and cargo. This new transport bridge will enhance the quality and speed of access for university students and families in both the TRNC and the surrounding eight provinces of Anamur.
