Alcohol consumption played a significant role in two separate traffic accidents that occurred in Nicosia and Kyrenia on October 6, 2024.

According to information from the police press office, the first accident happened around 11:30 PM on Atatürk Avenue in Nicosia. Betül AY (39 years old), while driving a vehicle with the license plate RM 175 under the influence of 212 milligrams of alcohol, collided with a stationary vehicle driven by Salar AZARI (25 years old) at a traffic light on the Şehit Ecvet Yusuf Avenue intersection, which was red at the time. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Betül AY was arrested for causing the accident while under the influence, and the investigation is ongoing.

The second accident occurred around 7:30 PM on the main road between Kyrenia and Değirmenlik, between kilometers 6 and 7. Ahmet TURHAN (36 years old), driving a vehicle with the license plate CA 749 under the influence of 195 milligrams of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle while navigating a leftward bend and crashed into steel barriers on the right side of the road. The vehicle then blocked the path of another vehicle driven by Nazım AYATA (30 years old) with the license plate ZUS 252, resulting in a collision. There were no injuries reported in this incident as well. Ahmet TURHAN was also arrested for causing the accident while under the influence, and the investigation continues.
