“Attempt to Elect a Parliament Speaker in Violation of Internal Regulations”
Former Ombudsman Emine Dizdarlı stated that the proposal to hold a re-vote for Kutlu Evren, who received 26 votes against 22 in the initial round of voting after being nominated by the UBP, is contrary to the Parliament's internal regulations.
Speaking on the joint broadcast of KANAL SİM and YENİDÜZEN’s News Meeting program, Dizdarlı emphasized that it is not permissible to present Evren for re-voting under these circumstances.
She recalled the difficulties encountered two years ago when Zorlu Töre was elected as Parliament Speaker, noting, "The regulations do not allow for more than five rounds of voting. We experienced challenges during Zorlu Töre's election as well, and despite two years passing, no amendments have been made to the internal regulations."
Dizdarlı remarked, "No one can accept a process that violates its own internal law. There is already a sense of unrest in society... Therefore, caution is needed. However, what is currently being attempted is an election for a Parliament Speaker that contravenes the internal regulations."
