A Turkish Foreign Ministry official addressed the media, refuting claims that foreign nationals were given priority during the boarding process. The official clarified that foreign nationals were only accepted aboard if they were close relatives of Turkish citizens.

Two ships had departed from Mersin, Turkey, to facilitate the evacuation of Turkish citizens from Beirut, Lebanon. According to the Foreign Ministry, approximately 1,900 Turkish citizens had requested evacuation, with the operation successfully evacuating 966 people, including the 24 TRNC citizens.

The Ministry emphasized that misleading reports about the boarding process could incite xenophobia and complicate the operation for personnel on the ground. The official further noted that 2,500 people had initially registered for evacuation, and authorities were contacting each individual to confirm their participation. While 1,900 expressed their intention to go to gathering points, about 1,000 actually showed up, with some deciding against boarding at the last moment.

Preparations for additional evacuation efforts, including potential charter flights, remain ongoing, and further operations will be based on incoming requests.
