Seasonal Workers from Forest Department Arrested for Arson: Four Detained
Four seasonal workers from the Forest Department have been arrested for deliberately starting fires in three locations. The fires, which occurred on October 7 and 8 in the forested area near the Mersinlik-Kantara junction, prompted a police investigation that led to their detention.
According to a police press release, the fires resulted in damage to 81 square meters of scrub vegetation, along with the destruction of four cypress trees and one pine tree.
During the investigation, it was discovered that O.Y. (22), a seasonal worker at the Forest Department, conspired with his colleagues Y.E. (23), A.A. (24), and T.A. (24) to intentionally ignite dry grass by using incendiary tablets on October 7 to extend his contract. O.Y. was also found to have started two separate fires on October 8 using a lighter to ignite dry grass in the same area for the same purpose.
The police confirmed the arrests of O.Y., Y.E., A.A., and T.A., and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
