Doğuş Derya: "Peace Will Not Be Given Unless We Demand It"
CTP MP Doğuş Derya emphasized that peace will not be served on a silver platter and that both communities must actively demand it.
In an interview with Haravgi newspaper, Derya discussed the Cyprus issue, stressing that changes on both sides of the island leave little room for optimism and that political agendas are drifting further apart with each passing day.
Highlighting that peace requires active demands from both communities, Derya noted that Turkish Cypriots demonstrated their desire for peace by voting in favor of the Annan Plan in 2004. She urged Greek Cypriots, who rejected the plan 20 years ago, to engage in self-reflection.
Derya also stressed that political equality is a United Nations parameter, and Greek Cypriots must understand this. She warned that if they attempt to reopen this issue, as Anastasiades did at Crans-Montana, a mutually acceptable agreement will not be possible.
