Harmancı: "The Republic of Cyprus is Our Greatest Achievement"
In an interview with Politis newspaper, Nicosia Turkish Municipality Mayor Mehmet Harmancı stated that after the failure of the Crans-Montana negotiations, the situation became increasingly difficult, and dialogue is essential to overcome the deadlock.
He highlighted that both Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and President Ersin Tatar come from the right-wing political spectrum, sharing the same political foundation, which is why new examples are needed.
Harmancı emphasized, "Regardless of who is responsible for the current situation, the Republic of Cyprus is our greatest achievement, and no one can deny the rights of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots within the Republic of Cyprus." He stressed that efforts for a solution should involve the local level, ensuring the participation of the broader society in the process.
He also expressed low expectations for the informal meeting scheduled in New York and called for progressive parties within the Turkish Cypriot community to form a common manifesto.
