Man Threatens Harmancı and Latif, Released on 20,000 TL Bail
Mehmet Şenol, who allegedly threatened Akdoğan Mayor Ahmet Latif and Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı within the LTB building, has been released on 20,000 TL bail.
Şenol was arrested on charges of "challenge to a duel, causing disturbance, and inappropriate conduct" after an incident that occurred at the LTB headquarters.
In court, Police Officer Erkan Yılmaz testified that on October 11, 2024, Şenol, upset over a prior disciplinary warning, confronted the head of the LTB's police department outside the mayor's office. Şenol allegedly shouted, "I'll kill you, I'll find you outside," challenging the officer to a duel.
Further, it was revealed that Şenol had also phoned Akdoğan Mayor Ahmet Latif, threatening both Latif and Harmancı, stating, "You've stepped on a landmine. I'll end both of you." The police launched separate investigations into these threats.
Şenol, who has a prior conviction for causing disturbances in 2022, did not contest the bail conditions. His lawyer stated that the incident was a repeat offense and that Şenol would seek anger management counseling. Judge Nuray Necdet imposed strict conditions for his release, including a 20,000 TL cash bail, a 300,000 TL surety, and an order for Şenol to report to the police three times a week, while prohibiting him from leaving the country until his trial.
