UBP Divided Over Parliamentary Speaker Nomination
There are contrasting statements within the National Unity Party (UBP) regarding the nomination for Parliamentary Speaker. While UBP Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu emphasized the importance of prioritizing previous candidates, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel indicated that a new candidate would be nominated.
In a program on BRT, Hasipoğlu referred to figures like Faiz Sucuoğlu and Kutlu Evren, who had previously run for the position, stating, “Priority should be given to our senior members who have sought this role.” He also noted that the group's candidate would be determined during a meeting and stressed that early elections were not on the agenda.
However, Prime Minister Üstel expressed a different view during an interview with Diyalog TV. When asked whether Zorlu Töre, Kutlu Evren, or a new candidate would be nominated, Üstel responded, “We will propose a new candidate.”
These differing statements suggest uncertainty within UBP over who will be nominated for the role of Parliamentary Speaker. The party is expected to finalize this decision during its group meeting on Thursday.
