Talat: A 'Well-Structured' Presidential System Could Be Beneficial

Former President Mehmet Ali Talat has expressed that a "well-structured" presidential system could be advantageous for the country. In an interview with Kıbrıs Postası, Talat emphasized the potential benefits of a properly designed system but acknowledged his hesitation to express this view openly today.

Referring to previous statements he made in support of the presidential system, Talat said, "Given what has happened in Turkey, I hesitate to make such statements now. However, a well-structured presidential system would certainly be beneficial."

Commenting on the difficulties in electing a parliamentary speaker, Talat described the crisis in Parliament as an internal issue within the National Unity Party (UBP). He pointed out that the turmoil in Parliament stems from problems within the ruling party itself.

Talat also addressed calls for an early election, stressing that it is necessary under the current circumstances. He highlighted the significant economic challenges and lack of regulation in the country, criticizing the lack of action to address these issues, stating, "There is no increase in foreign exchange rates, but prices keep rising."
