According to Fileleftheros, this intention was revealed after the meeting on October 15, which took place in a dinner format between TRNC President Ersin Tatar, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides.

The newspaper noted that the suggestion of appointing an EU representative was hinted at by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during discussions with Christodoulides in Brussels last week. However, the exact timing of the appointment remains unclear.

According to the report, the Greek Cypriot administration has inferred from the von der Leyen-Christodoulides talks that no developments are expected before December, as the procedural sessions of the European Parliament must first conclude. It is also expected that no substantial action will be taken from Brussels before the new European Commission assumes office.

After attending the European Council in Brussels last week, Christodoulides emphasized that the "Cyprus issue is a European issue, and the European Union has a role to play," as stated by the EU spokesperson. He added that he anticipates concrete announcements soon from the EU, highlighting its increased interest and potential leadership role in restarting Cyprus negotiations.

Meanwhile, Fileleftheros reported that the Greek Cypriot side is awaiting the next steps from the UN, following what was agreed during the October 15 meeting. This will be led by Rosemary DiCarlo’s involvement in the Cyprus issue. The newspaper also noted curiosity over how Turkey will proceed regarding the matter.
