In a recent social media statement, Özersay noted, “In parliamentary systems, the prime minister can remain in office as long as they have the support of the majority in Parliament. If the prime minister's reputation is damaged and it becomes evident that they have lost their majority, the Constitution clearly outlines the necessary actions.”

He further pointed out that “Ünal has found himself in a situation where he cannot even elect a Parliament Speaker. Despite multiple attempts and discussions of early elections, he has failed to secure this essential position.” Özersay argued that Ünal should either resign or seek a vote of confidence as outlined in Article 109/4 of the Constitution, stating, “This matter is not only legal; it is also a question of political ethics.”

Özersay also highlighted the opposition's constitutional right to challenge the government through a no-confidence motion. “If the opposition believes there is no longer confidence in the prime minister, they can submit a no-confidence motion with the signatures of nine parliament members. If this motion is supported by a simple majority, the prime minister must resign,” he explained.

The controversy has prompted calls for greater transparency and accountability within the political landscape. Özersay concluded, “As we move forward, it is crucial that all parties uphold democratic principles and take the necessary steps to address the current crisis.”
