6,000 Tourists Attend Merit Poker Tournament in Northern Cyprus
The European Poker Tournament (EPT) took place at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel, attracting a record-breaking 6,000 tourists to Northern Cyprus. Despite ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the tournament surpassed last year’s turnout of 5,000 participants.
Songül Bekem, President of Merit Poker, highlighted the global appeal of the event, noting that participants from 75 countries stayed in tourist accommodations in the Kyrenia region for the tournament.
Boost to Tourism and Economy
Bekem emphasized the significant role of the tournament in promoting Northern Cyprus, stating that every visitor acts as a tourism ambassador. She added that they work hard to ensure positive memories and experiences of Northern Cyprus, contributing to the country's international recognition.
“The event not only enhances the tourism potential of the region but also supports local businesses in Kyrenia, providing a substantial boost to the area’s economy,” Bekem said.
She also expressed satisfaction with the growing interest in Northern Cyprus and revealed plans to organize an even larger event next year.
