Tatar: "I Never Wanted to Disconnect from Dialogue, I Always Kept the Door Open"

President Ersin Tatar, speaking about the trilateral meeting in New York, emphasized that he has always kept the door open for dialogue, communication, and contact. He stated, "The Greek Cypriot side hesitates because they do not want to recognize our institutions."

Tatar stressed that he has always kept the door open, stating, "Our policy framework is based on sovereign equality. After consulting with Turkey, we decided to attend this meeting. This process began after consultations with Ankara."

Appearing on the 'Objektif' program on Kıbrıs Postası TV, hosted by Erçin Şahmaran, Tatar reiterated that the negotiations must be conducted on equal terms. "We will change the rules of this game. We no longer say 'yes' to talks within a federal framework," he stated.

Referring to his proposal for "direct trade, direct commerce, and direct contact," President Tatar mentioned that the United Nations considered it a "just proposal." He added that this new policy is being pursued with determination.

Ersin Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots are not alone, pointing out that the importance of the TRNC as an independent and sovereign state has increased recently.

He underlined the need to voluntarily meet within a framework for a fair, lasting, and sustainable agreement. "A forced agreement would neither be permanent nor sustainable," he noted.

"UN Security Council Resolutions Could Be Changed Overnight If Desired"

Tatar stated that the UN Security Council resolutions could be changed "overnight" if a fair, lasting, and sustainable agreement is desired. He added, "No one has the right to put us in a position where we would be assimilated within a federal framework that doesn't reflect the realities of Cyprus."

"The Two-State Solution Has Been Presented to the World"

President Tatar highlighted that the two-state solution model has been presented to the world on various platforms. He also noted that the Cyprus issue is separate from the relations between Greece and Turkey.

Tatar: "We Will Never Forget the Champion Angels"

Regarding the Isias Case, Tatar said, "The families' pain is our pain. We will never forget the Champion Angels." He extended his condolences and emphasized that the case is being closely followed and the necessary contacts are being made.
