Erhürman: "What's Happening is a Coup Against Parliament"
Leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman declared that the publication of Ziya Öztürkler’s election as Speaker of Parliament in the Official Gazette is null and void, calling the situation "a coup against Parliament." He emphasized that the CTP does not recognize Öztürkler's appointment.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, Erhürman stated that if this continues, it would amount to a parliamentary coup, and that today's handover ceremony is also invalid.
Erhürman highlighted that three legal experts reviewed the election process and deemed the ballots "invalid," stressing the clear legal violations in the election. He questioned whether parliamentarians should proceed with their work under such conditions.
He also underscored the importance of safeguarding Parliament, stating, "There is no other Parliament. We must protect it," and reiterated that Zorlu Töre's role as Speaker remains legally and practically valid.
