Helin’s Killer Altundağ Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
Sefer Buğra Altundağ, convicted of the brutal murder of 16-year-old Zehie Helin Reessur in İskele, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. The verdict was read by Judge Hasan Dağlı of the Famagusta Heavy Penal Court, which convened in İskele for the hearing.
The courtroom, filled with both the victim’s and the defendant’s families, witnessed emotional scenes as Reessur’s family expressed relief that “justice was served,” responding with tears and applause.
The court unanimously found Altundağ guilty of five charges, including premeditated murder. He received life imprisonment for the primary charge and additional sentences of 35 years on other counts, to be served concurrently.
Following the sentencing, Helin’s mother, Zişan Reessur Saltukhan, addressed the press, stating, “I will never see my child again, but I have faith in justice. Now, I’m going to the cemetery to share this news with her.”
Judge Dağlı emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting that it was committed with cruelty and a calculated disregard for life. He stressed that the sentence should serve as a deterrent, underlining the judiciary's duty to respond firmly to such violent acts against life.
