Erhürman Criticizes "Phony" Opening of Parliament
Tufan Erhürman, leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), emphasized that the recent opening of the Parliament was merely "phony" and claimed that it did not adhere to legal procedures.
He pointed out that although the Parliament was scheduled to convene at 10:00 AM, four hours had passed without any proper assembly. "The UBP held a group meeting and then conducted a 'phony' opening of the Parliament," Erhürman stated.
He stressed that a legally elected Speaker must initiate the session for the Parliament to be considered officially opened. "Therefore, the Parliament has not opened. There is no legally convened Parliament," he asserted.
Erhürman also addressed the UBP's expectation for the CTP to propose a candidate for the Deputy Speaker position, stating, "We have submitted a letter to the Parliament; the CTP will nominate a Deputy Speaker, but this will only happen after the Speaker's election is completed in accordance with the rules."
Regarding the Speaker election, he declared that Ziya Öztürkler, currently holding the position, is considered null and void. "Once the Speaker election is finalized, a candidate for Deputy Speaker will be selected," Erhürman explained, affirming that the CTP's stance is clear and warning that similar disruptions would occur again on Monday, as the UBP seems uninterested in effectively operating the Parliament.
