Ersoy: We Demand Accountability, Not Resignations from Officials
Umut Ersoy, Secretary-General of the Independence Path party, addressed the situation at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Emergency Hospital in Nicosia, stating, "We demand accountability from officials, not their resignations."
He highlighted the systemic issues that have led to a tragic incident resulting in the death of one infant and a life-and-death struggle for six others.
In a written statement, Ersoy criticized Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek for failing to answer questions from families affected by the incident and accused his chief of staff of labeling concerned relatives as "provocateurs."
"We must change a system that commodifies health," he asserted, stressing that many questions remain unanswered regarding the incident. He claimed that those who promised to conduct a transparent process have been hiding information from the outset.
Ersoy further condemned the policies that prioritize profit over patient care, stating, "A system has been created that disregards human life and treats health as a commodity." He expressed opposition to a system where only those who can afford private hospitals receive care while the less fortunate are left to their fate.
