Özuslu: "CTP Will Not Participate in Any General Assembly Led by Ziya Öztürkler"
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Sami Özuslu announced that the CTP would boycott any General Assembly session presided over by Ziya Öztürkler, asserting that Öztürkler does not hold legitimate authority as the Speaker of Parliament.
Speaking on the Agenda program on Cyprus Post TV, hosted by Ulaş Barış, Özuslu remarked, "For us, the election of the Parliamentary Speaker is null and void."
Özuslu criticized the current government, saying, "The government has been in power for five years, yet what benefit has it brought to the country?" He suggested that political parties might consider a parliamentary boycott, emphasizing that "all democratic means are legitimate."
Boycott of Sessions Led by Öztürkler
He further underlined that CTP would not participate in any session or committee meeting chaired by Öztürkler, reiterating that the CTP has maintained a consistent position on this matter since the beginning. Özuslu added, "If we violate election laws within Parliament, we cannot expect adherence to democratic principles like the secret ballot."
On the Infant’s Death in Neonatal ICU
Özuslu also addressed the recent death of a 20-day-old infant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, stressing the importance of avoiding statements that could contribute to a "lynch culture." He argued that political intervention is necessary, as it was known that ongoing issues could lead to tragic mistakes.
Concerns Over Procurement and Reporting
Özuslu criticized the handling of alcohol supplies, transported in five-liter water bottles, and called for distinct packaging to prevent confusion. He questioned the delay in disclosing the preliminary autopsy report, asking, "Where is the preliminary autopsy report? What does it say?"
