Hasipoğlu Calls on CTP: Let’s Get Parliament Working
National Unity Party (UBP) Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu has called on all MPs from the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) to convene and enable legislative activities, emphasizing that Parliament has been unable to move into the legislative phase for over a month.
Speaking to Kıbrıs Postası, Hasipoğlu highlighted that it has been a month since the ceremonial opening of the Republic's Parliament on October 1, yet legislative activities have not begun. He underscored that MPs have a primary responsibility to participate in parliamentary sessions and engage in legislative and oversight activities.
“CTP Seeks to Create Chaos Amid Election Process”
Hasipoğlu criticized the CTP’s approach during the election period, accusing it of trying to create chaos and labeling this attitude as unacceptable. He reminded that keeping Parliament functional is a shared responsibility of both the government and the opposition.
“We Support Democratic Dialogue but Will Not Yield to Threats”
He reiterated that the UBP is committed to democratic dialogue and cooperation, but will not submit to threats or pressure, affirming, “UBP will continue to serve our people and state with determination.”
“If Dissatisfied with the Government, File a Motion of No Confidence”
Hasipoğlu also reminded that, under the principle of separation of powers, the legislature and executive branches are independent. He urged that if the opposition is dissatisfied with the government’s performance, they should propose a motion of no confidence rather than conflating legislative and executive activities.
