Atun: "CTP Has Engaged in an Unprecedented Parliamentary Occupation"

UBP Deputy Group Leader Sunat Atun expressed well-wishes to the Prime Minister, commending Üstel for participating in parliamentary proceedings shortly after undergoing surgery. Addressing the delay in selecting the Parliament Speaker for the second term, Atun noted that the government coalition had strived for a patient and lawful process. However, he criticized CTP for allegedly obstructing politics and the Constitution, attempting to "plunge the country into chaos."

Atun accused CTP of blocking the speaker election process to the detriment of the public, stating, “The cost of this obstruction is significant for the country.” He confirmed that Ziya Öztürkler had been elected as Speaker and that CTP had been given until November 4 to nominate a Deputy Speaker candidate.

Describing CTP's actions as an “unprecedented parliamentary occupation,” Atun argued that while CTP claims to uphold the law, it has breached protocol by preventing parliamentary operations. “This is the most severe legal violation in the Parliament’s history,” he said, referencing CTP Deputy Speaker Fazilet Özdenefe’s allegedly unlawful occupation of the Speaker’s seat.

He emphasized that UBP is committed to its constitutional responsibilities and governance, pointing out that obstructing Parliament during the upcoming budget period would harm the country. “Are you aware of the damage caused by blocking Parliament?” Atun asked, suggesting CTP’s motives are to disrupt stability.

Atun reiterated UBP’s commitment to proceed calmly, following the Constitution, and completing the process of electing parliamentary officials. “We will not be part of this game,” he stated, affirming UBP's dedication to preserving the state and its future.
