Akpınar Criticizes CTP: "Is Your Aim to Ignore the Will of the People?"
Democrat Party (DP) Secretary-General Serhat Akpınar criticized the attempt by CTP Deputy Speaker Fazilet Özdenefe to convene the General Assembly under the agenda of a 'Parliament Speaker Election,' questioning whether the Republican Turkish Party's (CTP) objective was to disregard public will. Akpınar, who also represents Kyrenia, argued that CTP’s actions disrupted parliamentary function and undermined the people's mandate.
In a statement from DP, Akpınar contended that the CTP, by seeking to occupy the Parliament Speaker's platform, was essentially disregarding the authority of the Assembly. “What’s being hindered here is not only parliamentary operations but the very will of the people,” he stated, noting the session's critical nature, especially with the upcoming budget discussions and unresolved issues from the previous term.
Akpınar’s remarks further noted:
"While we at the Democrat Party focus on enhancing the effectiveness of parliamentary work and addressing accumulating issues, CTP’s disregard for national issues is evident. The public expects service and solutions, not the political maneuvers displayed by the opposition. Were Özdenefe truly committed to her role, she wouldn’t resort to juvenile tactics, nor involve the President to justify her actions."
Calling for an end to “fruitless quarrels,” Akpınar urged all parties to prioritize the country’s real agenda and dedicate more time to legislative responsibilities. “For nearly two months, we’ve wasted the valuable time of the people of the TRNC. It’s time we make up for this.”
He concluded, “Our people expect us to work towards solutions within the Assembly, not to sow chaos and uncertainty. Is your aim to ignore the will of the people?”
