Erhürman: It is Impossible to Disregard the Attorney General's Opinion
Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), emphasized the importance of obtaining legal opinions regarding the election for the Presidency of Parliament, stating, “It is impossible to disregard the opinion of the Attorney General.”
The General Assembly of the Republic Parliament convened under the leadership of Vice President Fazilet Özdenefe.
Speaking in the General Assembly, Erhürman addressed the issues surrounding the Presidential election. He recalled that they had raised objections regarding the multiple votes cast on the ballot during the final round of the election. He mentioned that they learned two days later that legal opinions had been sought from the Parliament's legal advisors.
“Obtaining opinions from legal experts is important; it is impossible to disregard the opinion of the Attorney General,” Erhürman said.
He pointed out, “If you request a written opinion and receive three different views, it is incorrect to think that merely publishing these opinions in the Official Gazette closes the matter. Three legal advisors are working to reach a common view in committee studies. Those legally authorized are obliged to provide these opinions.” Erhürman criticized the handling of the situation.
