South Cyprus to Acquire Four Firefighting Aircraft
In an effort to enhance its wildfire response capabilities, the government of South Cyprus plans to acquire four firefighting aircraft.
According to Politis newspaper, the Ministry of Agriculture has approved the purchase of the aircraft as part of an ongoing initiative to improve firefighting effectiveness. A total of 6.125 million euros has been allocated in the 2025 budget for the down payment on the aircraft.
The newspaper reported that, while the acquisition process for the aircraft is ongoing, the government will continue to lease aerial firefighting equipment in the interim. Additionally, four aircraft and two helicopters are expected to be acquired for the 2025 firefighting operations.
The report also highlighted that the 2025 budget includes several other provisions for firefighting efforts, such as the installation of automatic fire detection systems and the purchase of new ground-based firefighting vehicles.
