Athienou Residents Renew Call for Piroi Crossing Point
Athienou (Kiracıköy) Mayor Kiriakos Kareklas has reiterated the community's demand to open the Piroi (Gaziler) crossing point, rejecting any alternative proposals for a different crossing.
According to Haravgi and other reports, Mayor Kareklas and the municipal council met with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday, stressing their firm stance. Kareklas stated that they conveyed to Christodoulides their refusal to accept another crossing point instead of Piroi.
Kareklas noted that Christodoulides listened carefully and acknowledged their concerns, assuring them that he had done everything possible in his discussions with the UN Secretary-General and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
The mayor emphasized that the opening of the Piroi crossing is a humanitarian issue and would significantly benefit the region. He also referenced a letter sent to Christodoulides on November 24 outlining the community’s position.
